Slimpod – Day 15

It’s the weekend and we were hanging out with a very health-conscious friend. So that made it easy to eat decently. The interesting part came over dinner. I knew I didn’t want to eat a whole pizza. I suggested sharing, but the rest of the group thought it wouldn’t be enough. Sure enough though, I only finished half my plate and said I would pack the rest. But this suggestion was met with an enthusiastic, “No, we can finish it!”, with everyone encouraged to eat a little more, including me. This was a really interesting moment for me because this action is the usual, and I’ve done it too. Why pack half a pizza when everyone can just enjoy a little more food and we’ll “walk it off” (the indigestion, not the calories!). It got me thinking about how I’m going to approach this in the future. The first step will be to order something small and suggest that if I’m still hungry afterwards then I can always order something else later. Another approach would be to stop eating sooner, so that if the “team effort” approach comes and we all have to eat more, that point happens well before I’m full, rather than at the point of the “feeling of early fullness” (Trevor’s words).

Overall, I’m still doing well. It’s not perfect. There are some days where I eat more cookies or chocolate than I intended to. But I’m not beating myself up about it. I’m making good decisions most of the time, and that’s a win. I also see the scales every morning and haven’t weighed myself, because I’ve realised it doesn’t matter. The number can say anything and it’s worthless. All I care about is how I feel in my clothes and in myself. I know I’m going in the right direction and that’s all I need to know.
