Tue Review: 3 January 2017
Happy New Year! Are you still feeling pumped? Did you feel pumped at all over the break? I’m feeling great! I’ve made decisions – not resolutions – about how I see 2017 going and I just need a little planning to make it happen.
I’m also going to set brand new weekly goals! I’m pretty happy with how they went last year. I visited new place, I joined a gym and actually attended on a regular basis, and I really pushed myself mentally with my new job and exploring the world of lifestyle blogging and digital volunteering. I didn’t get everything done. I still didn’t finish a book by Christmas! But I read so much about world politics, philosophy, environmentalism and digital media. I read quite widely, it just wasn’t in book form.
2017 is now here and it’s time to set myself up for another successful year, using my own personal definition of success and you should set your own definition, too!
Brain Goal: I will successfully complete a community project.
Action: My Brain Goal and Soul Goal are each split 60/40 across both categories. And as crazy as it sounds, this one is actually the less airy-fairy of the two. I will – hopefully – be attending a leadership meeting for a community group next month to discuss local plans and projects and how to implement them. This is a chance to turn philosophical ideas into the foundation of a reality. I’m very excited to be a part of it. I’m also unsure of what the full extent of my involvement will be, so I’m feeling a little cautious. We will see what becomes of it all. I won’t regret trying!
Body Goal: I will stretch every day until I can sit cross-legged on the floor again.
Action: This goal is a mini-goal towards learning how to jog and there is a reason I wrote “learn”. Yes, I can jog. I just hate it and have no finesse whatsoever when I do it. My feet don’t point the same way, one leg starts hurting, I get breathless really quickly – I seriously suck at it. The first step towards this for me is to improve my flexibility. In primary school we used to sit cross-legged on the floor, gradually in high school we stopped, and I can’t do it anymore. One leg just won’t sit flat anymore. I want that flexibility back again so I feel more balanced. Then I’ll move onto jogging. Maybe 🙂
Soul Goal: I will write a business plan for my next venture – getting paid to write.
Action: Originally I put this as my Brain Goal, but it’s not really about challenging my intellectual mind. It’s really about challenging what I think I want, what I think I can do and what I am actually willing to do. I have signed up with a content mill to keep my skills up, but it’s a faceless business that pays a pittance. I’d rather work with local businesses and provide a more personal service.
