Statement: May 2016

1 month to launch! AAAAARGH!!!

WordPress:

I’ve settled on a theme (Harmonic) and have downloaded a few free plugins:

  • MailChimp for WP (see below)
  • Blog Designer – this plugin gives you a range of different ways for your blog posts to be displayed.
  • Easy Google Fonts – for a better range of font choices
  • TablePress – to make it easy to post things in a grid pattern. You can make searchable tables too, but I’m just using it to align images and text. There is probably a better way to do that, but I’m already familiar with TablePress so that’s what I’m using!

There are more, but these are the ones I know I’ll keep – for now, at least.

Social Media:

I’ve been using Buffer to post tweets about anything interesting that I come across. I haven’t been as organised as I would have liked, but I’m learning and beginning to plan ahead. Since I’m trying to stick with simple things that are easy to get a grasp of, I’ve taken to the idea of “days of the week” hashtags: #TravelTuesday, #Caturday etc. I take lots of photos of flowers and have been thinking about starting my own specific day hashtag such as #FloralFriday, but I quickly realised that unless I organise all my flower pics and plan when do post them, I’m quickly going to double-up on images because I’ll forget which ones I’ve shared already!

Marketing:

I’ve also signed up for a MailChimp account (the free version) to handle subscription signups. I have plans to have a free ebook for everyone who signs up (which is pretty standard practice these days), but I haven’t finished it yet. I’m also not sure whether I’ll even do a newsletter of new content or just a summary of new posts. I’m not sure how often I will send mailouts to subscriber, but I like the idea of an initial 5-day daily information course or something similar, but that will have to be down the track. I’ll probably go for monthly mailings at this stage.

Income streams:

I have been looking into affiliate programs and I’m very happy to see that there are several companies I’m already a happy customer of that offer affiliate programs. Amazon is a big one, but also Booking.com – a site I visit every single time I book a holiday. I’m probably going to sign up to WealthyAffiliate which is a very well regarded program according to the multiple reviews I’ve read and see what further information I can find.
